Joe Browns Clothing

Tuesday, October 11th, 2011

Our love of bargains takes us to the Joe Browns shop online. Do you already know about this retailer? You may well be aware of our Joe Browns discount codes, but there’s more to this store than meets the eye.

What do we like to see from an online shop? Well, we always reckon that some of the following are the real basics:

  • A design that showcases what the retailer has to offer
  • Easy to navigate, in order to find the products that you want
  • Clarity of product offerings
  • Suitable detail about the products
  • Secure website
  • Clear delivery policy
  • Clear returns policy
  • Contact phone number, in case of problems

You may have your own thoughts, but it’s likely that some (or all) of the above would be seen as being beneficial to your shopping experience. What did we make of Joe Browns, based on these requirements?

Design

The website looks pretty funky and we’d say that it was pleasing on the eye. Without getting too technical, we’re using a Firefox browser and it looks good to us!

Navigation

The navigation is on the left-hand side of the page. Some of the key information (such as delivery charges) are hidden away at the bottom. If we were being really critical, then we’d say that we’d like these moved into a more prominent position.

Products

It’s clear that Joe Browns sell clothing and accessories, for both men and women. There’s no confusion here – they are clearly focused on this core offering.

Details

With clothing, pictures often count for a lot. The zoom functionality on the site makes it possible to see exactly how a garment looks. The addition of customer ratings is useful, particularly since staff seem to be responding to particular concerns. It’s good to see this level of engagement.

Secure website

As would be expected, this website is verified as being secure.

Delivery policy

The delivery policy is made clear, although delivery pricing is included on a separate page. Personally, we prefer to see this detail all included on a single page, to reduce the amount of navigation that’s required. For the record, the standard delivery charge is currently £4 at the time of writing. There are, however, variations on this price. For instance, you’ll pay less delivery if you’re only ordering gift vouchers.

Overseas orders incur larger delivery charges, as is usually the case with UK retailers.

Returns policy

This is clearly stated.

Phone number

The phone number is displayed on every page of the site.

Overall, we liked what we saw with Joe Browns. Room for improvement? Sure, we had a few minor gripes about navigation, particularly with regard to the display of delivery costs. But it compares favourably with many other websites in the sector.
