This is a pretty good indicator of how the brand see themselves.

Their experience in catalogue shopping might leave you expecting a “cheap and cheerful” approach from the group. Although prices are certainly kept competitive, you may be pleased to note that big name brands are available on the website too. This means that you can get some good deals on Adidas shoes, French Connection coats, or Superdry shirts – to mention just a few of the leading brands who are currently represented.

Specific offers include free delivery for click and collect, 10% off your first credit order and buy now, pay nothing for 12 months deals.

In short, it looks like Very are a retailer to keep an eye on.

Their offers a pretty simple to understand. You can book flights only, accommodation only, or book the two together. This ensures that you have the maximum amount of flexibility for your travel arrangements.

They also have a selection of special offers. When we carried out our most recent review, for example, they were highlighting a deal of the week (which was 7 nights in St Lucia). They also have specialist sections if you’re planning a family holiday, or a city break.

Family deals tend to focus on European beach resorts, where you can all relax and hopefully soak up the sunshine. At the present time, they are also offering discounts for those looking to book winter sun breaks. When you’re considering booking a holiday online, it makes sense to check back regularly with a travel company to see what deals they are making available.

The nature of those deals may change frequently, depending upon availability. Sometimes tour operators are able to offer great last-minute deals, but on other occasions you may actually find that there’s a real benefit to making an early bird booking. Don’t forget that flexibility helps in terms of keeping prices low. You generally find that prices rise during peak periods – avoid these if you can, although that’s not always easy if you’re looking to travel with children.

The website looks pretty funky and we’d say that it was pleasing on the eye. Without getting too technical, we’re using a Firefox browser and it looks good to us!

The navigation is on the left-hand side of the page. Some of the key information (such as delivery charges) are hidden away at the bottom. If we were being really critical, then we’d say that we’d like these moved into a more prominent position.

With clothing, pictures often count for a lot. The zoom functionality on the site makes it possible to see exactly how a garment looks. The addition of customer ratings is useful, particularly since staff seem to be responding to particular concerns. It’s good to see this level of engagement.

As would be expected, this website is verified as being secure.

Delivery policy

The delivery policy is made clear, although delivery pricing is included on a separate page. Personally, we prefer to see this detail all included on a single page, to reduce the amount of navigation that’s required. For the record, the standard delivery charge is currently £4 at the time of writing. There are, however, variations on this price. For instance, you’ll pay less delivery if you’re only ordering gift vouchers.

Overseas orders incur larger delivery charges, as is usually the case with UK retailers.

Returns policy

This is clearly stated.

Overall, we liked what we saw with Joe Browns. Room for improvement? Sure, we had a few minor gripes about navigation, particularly with regard to the display of delivery costs. But it compares favourably with many other websites in the sector.
